When the weather starts warming up, there’s no better activity than hitting the pavement. Running is not only a great physical activity but it also helps with mental health and focus. I’ve been trying to figure out the art of meditation. And let me tell you, it isn’t easy! So until that happens, running will suffice as my meditation as it provides me with a clear conscience and a way to focus my mind, body and energy. Plus life’s all about balance, so I also enjoy running with friends as it keeps me challenged and excited to take on new trails.
My favorite place for training is the West New York, Weehawken and Hoboken waterfront which conveniently is all connected into one! This run provides insane views of the city skyline and there’s always a great breeze to help keep you cool. I always like to keep a credit card on me during my training here so that I can reward myself at one of the many restaurants afterwards! The best part is you can see all your local options along the way and it forces you to run back to the one you decide to go with. I think after tonight’s run my friend Nicole and I are going to Charritos!
Here are a few races I signed up for this year and I recommend you sign up too! Call your fitness friends or be alone with your favorite music and run your way into a more halpy & healthy lifestyle.
The Lincoln Tunnel 5 k for the Special Olympics of NJ- Sunday, April 10th, 2016
Not only do you get to run through the tunnel (something I dream about doing every morning during my commute) but you also contribute to an amazing cause! Your participation and/or donations go to more than 25,000 athletes of the Special Olympics NJ, providing FREE sports training and competition programs all year round. Sign up now or donate to my fundraising page here to help everyone have access to fitness programs for a healthy mind & body! Plus not many people can say that they ran across water…
The Newport 10k- Saturday, May 14, 2016
This course is fast, flat and provides spectacular NYC views. As this race comes to a close, you make your way along the water front which always helps me kick it into high gear for the finish line. Sign up here to run with me on one of my favorite courses in NJ!
Liberty Half- Sunday, September, 18, 2016
This will be my first Half Marathon but hey, everyone’s gotta start somewhere! 13 miles will be a breeze after completing the races I have lined up. The order of these races worked our perfectly as I will be making my way up from a 5k to a 10k and finishing with a half which will be a huge aspect of my training. Sign up here for the half or here for both the 5k & half combo deal!
All proceeds for these 2 races go to Jersey City Medical Center – Barnabas Health and there’s over $18,000 total prize money! Personally, I don’t sign up for these races with any intention of taking home a prize since finishing alone provides me with all the satisfaction I need (at least until the sore muscles kick in, then it’s Epsom salt baths and Biofreeze!)
Hope to see you out there sprinting this spring!
