Kinky Boots on Broadway

Three words: Kinky Boots Broadway.

Three more words: Wayne Brady Slays.

Since the show, I’ve contemplated if I like Wayne Brady as a man or woman more. I guess since I’m not being forced to choose, I’ll take this as an opportunity to applaud him for being really great at both.

Kinky Boots is a little unexpected and unconventional but still sure to put a smile on your face. If you have yet to experience it for yourself, I highly recommend it! My parents took Sheila and I for our birthdays last month and it was such a great time. Minus the rowdy women behind us who ended up getting kicked out at intermission due to “poor behavior”. After the leader of the “rowdy row” emptied her flask on our row of chairs, the Theater Manager kindly supplied us with enough cocktails to compensate for the second half of the show. Regardless of this incident, I still left the show utterly impressed by all of the talent on the stage of the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Although Wayne Brady’s time as “Lola” is now over (sigh), the cast’s talent is still sure to impress. Andi Kelso as Charlie Price is charming and funny and Jeanna De Waal as Lauren is real, relatable, likable and hysterical.

The composer and lyricist, Cyndi Lauper channels the energy of her song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and opens up the arena to both sexes, but still dressed the part of the original.
